Today, we are thrilled to spotlight Mannequin Hand as they release their much-anticipated debut EP, "Lose Your Mind." Hailing from Christchurch, New Zealand, this rock band has quickly made a name for themselves with their dynamic performances and innovative sound.

The band consists of Mitchell Anderson on bass guitar and lead vocals, Kahu Service on keyboards and vocals, Matt Haynes on guitar, and Harry Finlayson-Hood on drums. Mitch and Matt's musical journey began in high school in Rotorua, bonding over their love for classic rock. In 2020, their move to Christchurch for university led them to meet Kahu and Harry at Ara Jazz School, solidifying the lineup of Mannequin Hand.

Their sound is a unique fusion of influences, from the iconic Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, and Led Zeppelin to modern rock giants like Wolfmother and Arctic Monkeys. This blend of old and new creates a refreshing yet nostalgic rock experience that has captivated audiences in the Christchurch music scene.

Mannequin Hand has already hosted a range of successful gigs, including the memorable 'Scatterbrain' single release show on March 15th, 2024. Their music video for "Scatterbrain," released on March 25th, further showcased their creative prowess and commitment to their craft.

Adopting a classic Kiwi DIY ethos, the band recorded their EP in a local high-school practice room, using whatever equipment they had on hand. The result is a raw and authentic sound, mixed and mastered by Jackson Levi Watkinson at Levi Recordings in Ōtautahi.

"Lose Your Mind" explores themes of psychosis through its tracks. "Scatterbrain" delves into dangerous obsession, "Black Cherry Wine" discusses grief and substance abuse, "Without A Sound" addresses silent struggles with anxiety, "Phoenix" tackles self-doubt, and the title track critiques societal psychosis stemming from media misinformation. The EP features experimental elements like a specially recorded choir and a panning soundscape in "Black Cherry Wine."

Mannequin Hand’s innovative approach to music is evident in their ability to push boundaries and explore complex themes. Their music has garnered praise, with Peter K Malthus from Muzic.net.nz describing their live performance as “rollicking powerhouse” with “70's-tinged riffs” and “gigantic vocals.”

As Matt Haynes puts it, "Lose Your Mind is the perfect representation of Mannequin Hand; fun, loud, and a little unorthodox rock."
