One of Tāmaki Makaurau’s newest community spaces is BIG FAN, a not-for profit, multi-purpose space which began as a project to give back to the New Zealand music industry. You will be familiar with the team from Big Fan TONES and all their Videos of the Day this month, featuring both emerging and established artists.

Spearheaded by internationally renowned producer and songwriter Joel Little and his wife Gemma, the BIG FAN headquarters opened in 2022 and is home to three recording studios and an all-ages live music venue. BIG FAN also runs a number of community initiatives to support, upskill and mentor artists and emerging industry professionals – including industry training programme IGNITE, song writing camp FAN CAMP, studio residencies, and BIG FAN Live, which aims to break down some of the barriers to putting on live shows.

TONES has been brought to life as BIG FAN’s video content series “that unveils the soul of Kiwi music through reimagined, dynamic, and stripped-back live performances.” The TONES whānau aim to spotlight artists on all walks of their haerenga, aiming to share the uniqueness within every kaipuoro and their stories.

Today’s Video of the Day is their wrap-up episode, showcasing a few of the performance and interview highlights from the inspiring season that has been. This month, we saw New Zealand Music Month specials featuring hip-hop collective 0800, korokoro tui SPDRTWNBBY, surf rockers Double Parked, and reggae royalty Lion Rezz.
